Starting Off #1: Skincare

I'm taking part in The Starting Out Project, the brainchild of the lovely Stephanie from Steph's Inside Voice. It's all about helping young teens or girls who are just starting out with beauty. I think it's a great idea and why do we have blogs if not to share what works or not for us and help other people make the most informed decision?

Each week we will talk about a different product and in this first week it's all about skincare!

If the whole of your skincare routine is a little make up removing wipe every night you need to WAKE UP! The most important thing for your skin is keeping it nice and clean. There is no way a simple cleansing wipe will do that for you. For cleansing, a good, proper, thorough cleanser is ideal. I like to remove the bulk of my make up with cotton pads and a make up remover and then go in with my cleanser. That will ensure your skin is left clean and ready to absorb the next products. Many people tend to ignore toner, but I quite like it. Even if just as a last step to ensure my skin is completely make up free. You can use an exfoliating one a couple times a week and have a hydrating one for every day use. Next we have serums, which is where most of the effectiveness of your routine comes in. They are lighter than a moisturizer and usually contain more of the active ingredients that make the difference in your routine. You can find hydrating ones, blemish fighting ones, ones that are meant to even out the skin tone... Choose one appropriate for your skin concern.
You should always apply your eye cream before your moisturizer, to make sure it really gets into the skin and isn't just sitting on top of another product. This is definitely not an essential, though. I went years just applying my regular moisturizer to my under eye area and it kept it hydrated enough. If you have other concerns, find the appropriate eye cream. And last, your good old trusty moisturizer. Don't try to find one that promises the world, it probably won't deliver. All you need from your moisturizer is hydration.

cleansing - toner - serum - eye cream - moisturizer

This is the basics, maybe the foundation of a skincare routine. If you have to choose between investing in make up or skincare, I say always go for skincare. Because no amount of make up can cover up bad skin! Trust me, I know from experience! Another thing to keep in mind is consistency. You can't use something for a week and be disappointed when you don't get the results you needed. Be patient and I'm sure it will work! I notice the most difference on my skin when I stick to my routine!

I hope this has been helpful! If you have any more tips, just pop them in the comments bellow!
